ChatGPT dots Alternative: An Always-On AI Coworker Without the $100 Plan

OpenAI's dots are always-on agents with a computer of their own, but the first one comes with ChatGPT's top plans. Here is how they work and what to use if you want the same thing for less.

What OpenAI dots are

OpenAI announced dots at DevDay on 29 September 2026. A dot is a persistent agent inside ChatGPT, powered by GPT-6 Astra, that works on a cloud computer of its own, keeps pursuing goals in the background and can be reached from ChatGPT, Slack, Teams and, soon, text messages. It connects to thousands of apps through OpenAI's plugin ecosystem (TechCrunch, 9to5Google).

The first dot is included with ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium in eligible markets; it is not on Free, Go or Plus. Coverage puts the entry point at about $100 a month (Layer3 Labs).

Where dots fall short for many teams

  • Price. If you are on Plus, getting a dot means moving to a far more expensive plan.
  • One model. Dots run on GPT-6 Astra. You cannot pick another model or bring your own key.
  • One dot per plan, for now. OpenAI talks about teams of dots working together, but today you get one.
  • Availability. Dots are limited to eligible markets and plans.

No Nap AI as a ChatGPT dots alternative

No Nap AI is built around the same promise, a coworker that keeps working while you sleep, but without tying you to one vendor's top plan. Each coworker has its own cloud computer with a browser, files and a terminal, signs in to the apps you connect, runs on a schedule and reports back.

  • A team, not one agent. Pro includes 10 coworkers, with 3 computers running at once; put several in one chat and they take turns by @mention.
  • Use OpenAI anyway. With BYOK you can run your coworkers on OpenAI models through your own API key, or on Anthropic, Google, xAI and others.
  • No weekly limits on Pro and Business, so a long-running job does not stop when an allowance resets.
  • Watch and take over. See the coworker's screen live and take control with one click when a site needs you.
  • Safer by default. Ask mode stops before anything is sent, submitted or bought, and every action lands in an audit trail.

When dots are the better choice

If your company already pays for ChatGPT Business Premium and lives inside ChatGPT and Teams, a dot is a natural add-on. If you want several agents, want to choose the model, or do not want a $100 plan to try the idea, No Nap AI gets you there for a fraction of the price.
